My Coca Cola Napkin and Those Cities, Maybe in Nevada

Our hearts are like our cities,
strung out like twinkling havens in the
night, dotting the ever so blackening landscape
of what we call the land of opportunity,
and begging to tell their story.
I am stuck somewhere in between
two parties that are both wrong
and right at the same time, and I
don't even like Coca Cola.
And in the tiniest cracks of real America
live the souls who are truly living.
And I want to soak it all in, until it
burns in my skin and in me, because I
want to know, and I want to understand,
and when left alone with my thoughts
I want to have plenty of company
and the shoes he gave me need to lead
me to the love that he couldn't, and
they will, someday. And America will
be real to me then, and my city will
shine brighter, and my story won't
need to be told,
but
lived.
