I swear the sun was on fire tonight,
I saw it burning red,
the flames reflected in my eyes,
echoing what you said,
You told me that the truth meant more
than anyone could know,
You promised that the sun could burn
through winter's frozen snow,
I doubt it though--
I've seen the ice,
and felt the bitter cold,
and words like yours I've heard before,
and I'm not sure I'm sold,
But I swear that if I saw your face
and felt your trembling hands,
The sun, just like a warm embrace,
could make you understand
more than I was able to,
and then you'd know that I
knew the truth and felt the fire
and, for that truth, would die.
