Stoner With a Good Heart

He's so charming,
laughing there,
smiling,
mellow, moody, and nonsensical,
he's checked out.
"Check it out"
he keeps saying
slowly
everything is slowly
Lucy's in the sky
but there are no diamonds
no one else is laughing
swirling circles with his hands up,
pretending.
a Prayer
for something real
but too afraid to feel it
he slumps back in his coffin chair
I know he's in there somewhere.
"Did you forget to call your mom?"
It's her birthday
he remembered
he's counting
slowly
everything is slowly
and I am not amused,
intrigued, perhaps,
annoyed,
I roll my eyes,
I walk away,
and he's still so charming,
still laughing there,
still smiling,
mellow, moody, and nonsensical,
he's checked out.
