My laundry covers up my bed,
I want somewhere to lay my head
as hours pass and sleep becomes so distant
Gripping tight my pen so long
as if I could write a protest song
and speak some words of truth for just an instant
And Dylan's words ring through my ears
linking poets through the years
I know I give myself far too much credit
Sleep will steal my time today
again I'll push my plans away
and if I'm young too long I won't regret it
We've got to put an end to this-
to missing things we shouldn't miss-
tomorrow can't be treated like the past
Now with your guitar in hand,
you'll show me things I understand
oh how I wish the song you play could last.
